about us
Advanced Health & Physiotherapy opened it's doors in the North end of Moncton on Sept 15, 2009 by Physiotherapists Julie and John Gonzales. It had always been their dream of theirs to open a comprehensive health care facility in Moncton that offers advanced rehabilitative services in a calm and relaxed environment. When Julie and John met in 1999, Julie was interested in Chiropratic and John was studying towards a Dentistry degree. While spending time volunteering in a Sports Physiotherapy clinic in Saint John, Julie made the choice to switch her career path to Physiotherapy. Julie applied and was accepted into the Physiotherapy program at Dalhousie University: John soon became intrigued by what Julie was learning and by Julie's growing passion for her chosen field; and so he applied to Physiotherapy school also. Since graduating from Dalhousie in 2005, Julie worked at the WorkSafeNB rehab facility in Grand Bay, and various other private practices in Moncton. John worked primarily at the Moncton Hospital, and spent his evenings in various private practices in Moncton.
At Advanced Health, you will notice a very proactive approach to health and fitness, a warm and calming setting, an energetic and enthusiastic staff with diligent and thorough work ethics. We place a large emphasis on the educational component of treatments. It is our firm belief that a well-educated patient will be more successful in the rehabilitative process and beyond; they will full understand what the injury is, how to prevent the injury from reoccuring, how to recognize the injury in the early stages if it does return, and how to manage the injury during potential flare-ups.
Warmly welcomed by the Moncton community, sports community, and medical community, Advanced Health has grew into a highly-respected multi-disciplinary center which now houses 4 independent medical companies (Active Therapy - Massage Therapy, Progressive Occupational Therapy, and Equilibrum - Satellite clinic). We attribute our company's success and the satisfaction of our clients to the superior rehabilitative treatments we provide, the supportive environment we have created, and most importantly to the most one-on-one therapist-patient time you will find around.
support in our community
It is important to us that we are supporters of the local sports community. Katherina Georgoudis
Massage Therapist

Sonia Picard was born and raised in Cocagne. Her philosophy is in her clinic name: 'Active Therapy Clinic'. Active as a therapist in order to stay healthy and to show clients that we practice what we preach. Active as a client as well, since they have control over their bodies and what they do with their bodies. The massage is the medium; it takes care of the symptoms and can discover the causes, but the body heals itself and that is where the client has to be active in their process of being healthy. Sonia attended l'Universite de Moncton, where she earned her degrees in Physical Education and Education. She then went into Massage therapy and graduated in June, 2004. In the past 5 years, Sonia has volunteered with the Universite de Moncton men's hockey team as their massage therapist. She's also given various presentations in businesses and volunteered at other sporting events (ie. Women's National Squash Championship, 2 Volleyball National Championships, 2 CIS Men's Hockey Championships, various long distance running races in the greater Moncton area).

We know your time is valuable which is why we are committed to more quality treatment time spent one-on-one with your physiotherapist. We strongly believe the best care comes with specialized focused attention on you, and we hope you will notice this difference in our level of care.
your first visit

The first visit is always a 45- to 60-min session. In that time, we will ask you questions to get a thorough understanding of your current injury/complaint (what makes you feel worse/better, where is the pain located, past injuries, etc). Following this subjective examination, we will then move onto a biomechanical assessment that involves observation of how you move and then onto more specific tests that allow us to determine and better understand the root cause of your pain/injury. We encourage to you ask as many questions as you want during the assessment so that you also better understand your injury. At the end of the assessment, we will always discuss what was found and proceed to set up a treatment plan.
It is always best to show up at least 15 minutes early so that all the necessary paperwork can be filled out.
